FAQ's

Here are some answers to questions we are asked all the time and wish to share with you.  They represent our advice/opinions.  Ultimately, you are the decision maker for your horses.

Is it okay to feed grass clippings to the horses?
  • It is safe to feed grass clippings from non-weed, unfertilized cuttings within six hours of cutting.  The grass must be discarded after six hours from the time of cutting.  Fermentation starts six hours from the time grass is cut and fermented grass may cause colic.

How do I know which feed is best for my horse?

  • This depends on the job your horse does.  Do you ride him once a week on a leisurely trail ride or is he a high performance show horse in rigorous training?  Most major feed companies have formulated feeds designed for the job your horse does that meets the energy requirements of that job.

I'm on a tight budget, can you prioritize the vaccinations required in our area?

  • It's our job to meet your needs within your budget.  We are delighted to discuss ways to be effective in controlling disease in the most cost effective way we can.  All you need to do is ask.

What's the clinic's view on acupuncture procedures?

  • All types of medical programs have some merit.  Whether it is an alternative herbal medicine, acupuncture, chiropractic manipulation, massage, etc.  We may not have all the skills required within our clinic but we are happy to discuss the need for alternative medical intervention and can refer you to QUALIFIED practitioners.
